Budo what? What is it?
Budokon is a mixed movement arts modality created by Yogi and Martial Arts practitioner Cameron Shayne in 2001. It combines animal locomotion, mobility and strength to the yoga mat and it teaches us SO MUCH about ourselves. Where typical vinyasa practices you focus on the shape, in Budokon we focus on HOW we get in and out of the shape
My journey with Budokon:
I started Budokon myself years ago, about 2016! Trying classes here and there and attending workshops when it was offered. I always LOVED IT! It mixes the modalities of my contemporary dance training and knowledge with the ancient history of yoga and functionality while moving on the mat which made so much sense to me.
So when lockdowns started I needed to continue practicing at home and remembered my love for Budokon movement. I then applied for a scholarship for the online Budokon Yoga Teacher Training and got in! Now I am certified and itching to share it with the Christchurch community as the more I have explored it, the more I have loved it.
Anyway, Why are we doing this?
I'm offering this course because I want you to feel this movement modality in your body so you can better understand HOW you move
In this class we will move slowly, with intention, controlling our movement and getting precise around how we move on our mat. In this style we focus on transitioning through our postures, the in between, rather than holding a shape.
It is fun, challenging, exciting, new and playful. There are limited spaces so you all have room to move and it is likely to sell out so if you're keen, book in now! Or reach out if you have questions before we start
